'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith renews clash with City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he remembers the nail-biting closing stages of Swansea's remarkable turnaround win against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The game culminated with Galbraith picking up a fan's glasses amid the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith cracked the upright with a long-range effort from outside the box, and the defender quickly converted the deflection before charging toward the East Stand to celebrate, with the crowd congregating around the players.

Remarkable Recovery

This completed an incredible recovery given the team had trailed 2-0 deep into the final 45 minutes. Amid the delirium, there was some minor mishaps. Galbraith explained, "There was a fan shouting out and Josh Key and I were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're individuals, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

That win earned a next round match at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith pushed hard at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. He had arguably the best view when his former team took the lead in remarkable manner, with a teammate's long-range effort from about 45 yards going in via the woodwork and the Stefan Ortega. It feels criminal that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've given it to him for taking the effort on from that range," says Galbraith, who began the game centrally before switching to right defensive wing after they changed formation. That meant facing off against the England international, with whom he traded tops, and the player was among the opposition who complimented the way his former team played positively.

Opponent's Class

"Athletically they are very good but even the fundamentals and simple things, they can just perform consistently," Galbraith says. "It appears that they complete every delivery and they are adept at control and take the sting out of a game. You can feel you're doing well and then without warning they will just thread a ball between defenders without you even seeing. You have to be focused every second of the game. It demands a resilient mindset and concentration just to keep pace."

Welsh Transition

Swansea pushed to sign Galbraith in January and beat off competition to bring him in in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He established himself as a popular figure across multiple campaigns at Orient and has rapidly achieved similar status in Wales. At the London club he linked up again with the coach, who earlier gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in professional games on loan at his loan club from United. Then came a loan at fourth-tier the Manchester club, before he permanently left Old Trafford.

Learning Curve

"I was likely a slightly green going into professional soccer. I think many athletes would say development squad matches is very different. Sometimes it feels like the ball is moved without much intensity. There are limited hard challenges. Once you start playing professional matches you have to learn quickly."

Country Call-ups

He has shown that maturation for club and country, excelling for his national side, who remain in contention for the international competition next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has been selected in the recent fixtures, including both legs games against a football powerhouse. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's previous international manager, offered the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he manipulates the ball and his ability to spot a game-changing assist.

Starting Out

It has been an incredible journey for the player from the neighborhood in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who used to see his parent, Stuart, also a central player, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Red Devils Debut

The player's only game for Manchester United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a continental tournament trip to Astana, where they featured on an plastic turf and the arena covering was closed owing to conditions of freezing cold. "It was a lengthy journey and it was cold out there," he says, chuckling. "The week before, several youth players and I practiced as a group, so that assisted our preparation. Just to travel with the first team and get a couple of minutes at the end was incredible."

Leaving United

What was the challenge was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged a teenager? "It was quite easy, because I arrived at the moment where I knew I wasn't going to make it at first-team level. I'm very appreciative for the experience gained but it got to the point where I felt I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play professional soccer. Now I'm gradually progressing again."

Welsh Adaptation

It is the middle of the day at the club's training ground but Galbraith has somewhere to be at late afternoon: a learner's exam, another progress toward getting on the road. Until recently to his new neighborhood, the young professional was a regular in Swansea's dubbed team minibus, a team vehicle driven by team personnel, Pete and Howard, which transports players to and from practice and games.

"It's myself Gonçalo Franco, Ronald, an Ivorian player – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's pleasant to socialize with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the subsequent individual to stop using the bus and on the road. The Portuguese player enjoys practical jokes; he's constantly causing mischief."

Public Engagement

When he represented Leyton Orient, Galbraith would mix with fans on London's Central line after commuting at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
